Reputation: Plan for Your Worst Day.

By admin • September 29th, 2009

If the first time you think about reputation management strategies is when a crisis has occurred, you are too late.  The media is hitting you from every angle and you haven’t an ally or relationship to help shape public opinion.  In this business, we often wonder if Eliot Spitzer’s fate would have been different had he not established his reputation as a “steamroller” and Sheriff of Wall Street, bulldozing everyone and everything in his way.  When he needed support he had no friends in his corner to help.

The Spitzer situation is extreme but it makes an important point.  Organizations that work on their reputation over long periods of time are more likely to recover during difficult times.  Simply put, when you establish trust with key stakeholders, you have a greater likelihood of getting the benefit of the doubt.

If you have never taken a look in the mirror and honestly evaluated your organization’s reputation, now is as good a time as any to do so.  Those who have relationships in place to help nurture your reputation should take time to honestly evaluate what those partnerships are doing for you.  Are you getting back what you are putting in?

Meliora Strategies can work with your organization to implement an effective reputation management program to ensure your business endures potential crises.  For more  information contact us at info@meliorastrategies.com
